How We Began

Driven by the desire to make a difference and recognizing the declining school attendance among girls in Uganda, Girl Power Uganda was born. Inspired to create change at home and collaborate with like-minded individuals, we set out to empower girls and uplift communities.

It all started with a problem: two sisters wanted to solve in the country they call home. As athletes, Robin, a national lacrosse player, and Amanda, affiliated with the Uganda Taekwondo Association, saw the systemic challenges women face due to a lack of resources first hand. Through such community engagement and others, they repeatedly saw their friends dropping out of school. Confronted with the staggering numbers, and with Robin having just graduated and Amanda in her final year, they asked themselves: Why us and not them?

This photo shows Robin, her coaches, and teammates at the final training camp for the team preparing for the 2022 Women's Lacrosse World Championships.
Amanda made her debut in the Uganda Taekwondo Association in 2022, winning gold in her weight category.
Robin and Amanda (center) already from an early age saw that sport unites people; here they are with the Uganda Women’s Basketball National Team.
Kilimanjaro

With our firm belief in actions speaking lounder than words, In January 2024, we set out to raise 5,000 CHF by conquering Mount Kilimanjaro. By climbing the tallest free-standing mountain in the world, we made a bold promise to women everywhere: with determination and support, no challenge is to great to overcome.
